Medipol’s meaningful exhibition at AKM: “From the Pens of Mothers”

The “From the Pens of Mothers” exhibition, organized in collaboration with Istanbul Medipol University and the Beyazay Association of Türkiye, was held at the Atatürk Cultural Centre (AKM).

Organized in collaboration with Istanbul Medipol University and the Beyazay Association of Türkiye, and supported by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the ‘From the Pens of Mothers’ was a meaningful event combining the Disability Week (10–16 May) and Mother’s Day. Held at the Atatürk Cultural Centre (AKM), the exhibition featured letters written by 76 mothers of children with special needs from across Türkiye. The exhibition aimed to create social awareness and make invisible efforts visible, and was shaped around the theme of ‘being a mother of a disabled person’.

The exhibition, which took place from 13 to 15 May, was opened by Istanbul Deputy Governor Hasan Gözen, Istanbul Medipol University President Prof. Bahadır Kürşat Güntürk, Vice-President Prof. Yasemin Yüksel Durmaz, Dean of the School of Pharmacy Prof. Gülden Omurtag, Director of Vocational School of Health Services Prof. İlknur Keskin, and President of the Beyazay Association of Türkiye Lokman Ayva. The opening was also attended by disabled individuals and their families.

The opening speeches at the exhibition were delivered by Hasan Gözen, Istanbul Deputy Governor; Lokman Ayva, President of the Beyazay Association of Türkiye; and Prof. Bahadır Kürşat Güntürk, President of Istanbul Medipol University. Çiğdem Dörtköşe Erdik, a visually impaired mother of three, also gave an emotional speech at the opening ceremony.
