Istanbul Medipol University took over the presidency of PEMKON

Following the election held during PEMKON's 2026 General Assembly, organized as part of the 5th National Conference on the Landscapes of Türkiye and hosted by the Department of Landscape Architecture within the School of Architecture at Istanbul Technical University, Assoc. Prof. Bahar Başer Kalyoncuoğlu, Head of the Department of Urban Design and Landscape Architecture at the School of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture of Istanbul Medipol University was elected President of the Council for its 14th Executive Term.

The Council of Heads of Landscape Architecture Departments (PEMKON) is an independent platform composed of the heads of Landscape Architecture departments at universities across Türkiye. The Council promotes coordination and collaboration among departments in the fields of landscape architecture education and research while carrying out initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of landscape architecture education nationwide. Convening twice a year, the Council elects an executive president annually to coordinate its activities and strengthen interdepartmental collaboration. 
 

In her new role, Assoc. Prof. Bahar Başer Kalyoncuoğlu will lead efforts to strengthen academic coordination among landscape architecture departments across Türkiye, develop common educational policies, and oversee the Council's activities.

PEMKON also coordinates collaborative initiatives aimed at improving the quality of landscape architecture education across different universities, while facilitating cooperation in curriculum development, accreditation processes, research collaborations, and professional development.
 

WHO IS BAŞER KALYONCUOĞLU?
Assoc. Prof. Bahar Başer Kalyoncuoğlu currently serves as Head of the Department of Urban Design and Landscape Architecture at the School of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture of Istanbul Medipol University.

She completed her undergraduate education in the Department of Landscape Architecture at Istanbul University, earned her master's degree in the Urban and Regional Planning Program at Istanbul Technical University, and received her Ph.D. in Landscape Architecture from Istanbul Technical University.

Her academic research focuses on urban landscapes, landscape ecology, green infrastructure, sustainable landscape planning, urban agriculture, cultural landscapes, and socio-ecological memory. Throughout her academic career, she has authored numerous publications in national and international scientific journals and has contributed to a wide range of research and design projects.
