Deputy Minister of Family and Social Services Sevim Sayım Madak: Digital literacy is the key to trust
A panel titled “Family in the Context of Social and Digital Realities” was organized by the School of Communication at Istanbul Medipol University with the support of the Ministry of Family and Social Services. Held within the framework of the “2025 Year of the Family” initiatives declared by the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, the event addressed the effects of digitalization on the institution of the family, as well as emerging threats and solution proposals, from the perspectives of academia and public administration.

Istanbul Medipol University hosted a significant event examining the transformation of the family regarded as the cornerstone of the social structure in the digital age. The panel entitled “Family in the Context of Social and Digital Realities,” organized by the School of Communication at Istanbul Medipol University in the South Campus Conference Hall, brought together representatives from academia and policymakers.

The panel, which aims to contribute insight to the 2026–2035 “Decade of Family and Population” agenda, was attended by Deputy Minister of Family and Social Services Dr. Sevim Sayım Madak; Governor of Afyon Kübra Güran Yiğitbaşı; Deputy Governor of Istanbul Dr. Serap Özmen Çetin; President of Istanbul Medipol University Prof. Bahadır Kürşat Güntürk; Vice President Prof. Yasemin Yüksel Durmaz; Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Abdurrahman Çetin; Dean of the School of Communication Prof. Ali Büyükaslan; Management Consultant Fahrettin Özdemirci; President of Anadolu University Yusuf Adıgüzel; Ministerial Advisor to the Ministry of National Education Necdet Subaşı; President of Yeşilay Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Dinç; Provincial Director of Family and Social Services at Yeşilay Ömer Turan; and Assist. Prof. Cenk Beyaz from Medeniyet University, in addition to numerous academics and students.
During the event, the impact of the digital world on intra-family communication, the risks of cultural erosion, and the principles of safe technology use were evaluated in a comprehensive manner.
