Istanbul Medipol University, Faculty of Business and Management Sciences, Department of Economics and Finance Head Prof. Serhat Yüksel and Department of Banking and Insurance Head Prof. Hasan Dinçer made statements to Anadolu Agency regarding the “efficient” artificial intelligence move of China-based artificial intelligence startup DeepSeek. Prof. Serhat Yüksel stated that DeepSeek’s artificial intelligence model could open the doors to a new era in the markets due to its lower energy consumption. Prof. Yüksel made the following assessment: “The biggest contribution of this process is reducing costs. In other words, it can offer high performance at low cost. This has changed expectations regarding energy demand. Projections regarding energy consumption of data centers have been particularly affected by this development.”

PROF. DİNÇER: DEEPSEEK CAN REDUCE ENERGY CONSUMPTION OF DATA CENTERS
Prof. Hasan Dinçer emphasized that the energy-efficient model developed by DeepSeek can reduce the pressure on data centers and energy infrastructure. Prof. Dinçer made the following statements: “Current AI systems consume a lot of energy, making it difficult for some data centers to switch completely to renewable energy. Using DeepSeek may allow for lower energy consumption. This development could enable data centers to run entirely on solar and wind energy.”
