Midwifery is one of the world's oldest professions. From the establishment of the Republic of Türkiye to the present day, midwives have served in every region of the country, including its most remote communities, providing essential maternal and newborn healthcare services.

Healthcare reforms, together with rapid advances in science and technology, have led to fundamental changes in society's healthcare needs. In response to these developments, the midwifery profession requires well-qualified professionals who are capable of conducting scientific research, accessing and critically evaluating evidence, and applying research findings to clinical practice. The professional advancement of midwifery is achieved through postgraduate education. Undergraduate education in midwifery was introduced in Türkiye in 1996. Since then, undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs in midwifery have expanded; however, this growth has unfortunately not yet reached the desired level.

Today, the professional title of Specialist Midwife is awarded only to midwives who have successfully completed a thesis or non-thesis master's program in the field of midwifery. Through the Master's Program with Thesis offered by Istanbul Medipol University, our primary objective is to contribute to the development of the academic workforce required by undergraduate midwifery programs throughout Türkiye. In addition, the Master's Program without Thesis aims to educate midwives who can provide high-quality, evidence-based care in the areas of pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, and neonatal health, while equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to integrate evidence-based practice into clinical care.

Through the Midwifery Master's Programs at Istanbul Medipol University, we aim to educate highly qualified midwives who possess advanced scientific knowledge, demonstrate excellence in professional practice, and contribute to ensuring that future generations begin life in the healthiest possible way.
