Electroneurophysiology
"Electroneurophysiology (ENP) technologists measure the electrical activity of the brain (EEG) and nerves (EMG/NCS) using neurodiagnostic testing equipment. In addition to operating and maintaining equipment, ENP technologists work with physicians who interpret the test results. ENP technologists may be responsible for tests including Nerve Conduction Studies, and they assist the physician with Electromyography (EMG), Electroencephalography (EEG), and Evoked Potentials (EP). EMG’s are conducted to determine the existence of muscle and nerve damage. EEG’s are useful in diagnosing seizures and epilepsy, strokes and bleeding in the brain, degenerative brain disease, and brain infections. EP’s help determine spinal cord injuries, tumours on the nerves, and inflammation of the nerves.
ENP technologists can specialize in order to monitor brain, nerve and spinal cord function during surgeries (intraoperative monitoring) or to record data while patients are sleeping (polysomnography)."
