About the Department

Prosthodontics is a scientific discipline concerned with the diagnosis, treatment planning, and restoration of natural teeth and surrounding tissues using artificial materials. It focuses on regulating occlusion and restoring oral functions, aesthetics, and phonation, thereby improving and maintaining the patient's psychological well-being. The Department of Prosthodontics provides patient care services, conducts scientific research, and offers doctoral education under the Istanbul Medipol University Graduate School of Health Sciences.

The four-year PhD program includes courses in fixed prosthodontics, removable prosthodontics, occlusion, research methodology, prosthodontics literature, dental photography, biomechanics, maxillofacial prosthetics, implant-supported prostheses, adhesive dentistry, geriatrics, aesthetic and cosmetic dentistry, digital dentistry and CAD-CAM, TMJ disorders and treatment, and hypnosis during the first two years. Students who successfully complete these courses are eligible for the proficiency exam. Candidates who pass this exam proceed to their thesis work under a designated supervisor during the final two years. At the conclusion of the four-year period, candidates are required to complete and present their thesis and publish it in designated dental journals.
