Prejudices dismantled through knowledge: An interdisciplinary approach to HIV-AIDS
The event entitled “A Multifaceted Perspective on HIV-AIDS,” organized by the Istanbul Medipol University School of Health Sciences, examined the role of accurate information in combating fear and prejudice through an interdisciplinary framework.

Organized by the Department of Midwifery within the Istanbul Medipol University School of Health Sciences, the event titled “A Multifaceted Perspective on HIV-AIDS: Prevention Strategies” addressed HIV and AIDS not merely as medical conditions but also through the lenses of mental health, social perception, safe sexuality, and human rights. In addition to early diagnosis and contemporary treatment modalities, discussions focused on how stigmatization shapes individuals’ lives and on the critical role of accurate information in countering fear and prejudice.
Held at the South Campus Conference Hall, the event was attended by Head of the Department of Midwifery Assist. Prof. Asiye Kocatürk; Psychiatrist Specialist Dr. Ahmet Özercan from Marmara University Pendik Training and Research Hospital; Prof. Bahri Teker, faculty member of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology at Istanbul Medipol University and physician at the Department of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology of Medipol Mega Hospital; Sexual and Reproductive Health Trainer Nurşen Kanbur from the Turkish Family Health and Planning Foundation; and Social Worker Ayşe Tek from the Turkish Family Health and Planning Foundation, along with academics and students.
