Istanbul Medipol University’s live broadcast program “Radio Campus” continues to host the doyen names of the radio world. This week, Afrikalı Ali from Kral FM joined the program that brings together current topics about life, especially health, with the listeners. In the program, which can also be watched live on Istanbul Medipol University’s YouTube channel, the experienced radio host was accompanied by students and Assoc. Prof. Yakup Çağ, a child health and diseases specialist from Medipol Acıbadem Regional Hospital. The broadcast discussed basic child health issues, with special attention given to long-lasting coughs, obesity, and vaccination.

ASSOC. PROF. ÇAĞ: COUGH LASTING OVER FOUR WEEKS MAY BE RISKY
Speaking about the difficulties of being a pediatrician at the beginning of the program, Assoc. Prof. Yakup Çağ emphasized that since children cannot express themselves, disease diagnosis is made through careful observations. Drawing attention to the recent increase in long-term cough cases, Assoc. Prof. Çağ stated that this could be a symptom of a simple cold or a sign of a more serious disease. He said: “If the cough worsens with talking or physical activity, we can consider allergic conditions such as asthma.” He stated that coughs lasting more than four weeks should be considered chronic and that, in these cases, conditions such as whooping cough, reflux, foreign body aspiration, and cystic fibrosis should also be considered, in addition to asthma. He emphasized that parents should definitely consult a specialist in such cases.
