TTO offers innovative opportunities for entrepreneurs

Istanbul Medipol University Technology Transfer Office (TTO) carries out comprehensive work to reinforce the university’s leadership in scientific and technological fields and to bring production in these areas to the masses. Medipol TTO has undertaken the role of a bridge that provides a wide range of services from a strong entrepreneurial culture to university-industry collaborations by bringing academic knowledge and experience together with the society since 2014. Medipol TTO stands out with more than 500 projects it has implemented to date and has managed to transform academic knowledge into concrete success with over 500 patents and design registration certificates obtained from these projects. TTO, which has established strong ties with the industry and pioneered more than 100 collaboration projects, paves the way for innovative ideas to come to life with the support it offers to entrepreneurs. Not limited to project production, TTO reaches more than 4,000 people with the trainings it organizes and creates a wide area of ​​influence, making a difference with its contributions to the entrepreneurship ecosystem and the industrial world.

Istanbul Medipol University Technology Transfer Office (TTO) continues its work at Istanbul Medipol University Kavacık North Campus with the vision of creating a sustainable entrepreneurship and innovation culture. Strengthening this vision with its three research centers, TTO offers a comprehensive support ecosystem through the Incubation Center, Scientific Research Projects (BAP) Commission, and Technology Development Center (TEKMER). Not limited to physical facilities, TTO provides the necessary infrastructure for the development and implementation of innovative ideas with training, consultancy, and mentoring services. With this approach, Medipol TTO creates an inspiring innovation environment for academics, students, and graduates, while also contributing to the university’s positioning as a leading actor in the world of science and technology.

ACCESS TO INTERNATIONAL FUNDS
Istanbul Medipol University Technology Transfer Office (TTO) Manager Elçin Dilek Kaya stated that TTO serves as a bridge that aims to transform the scientific knowledge within the university into economic and social benefit. Kaya said: “Our aim is to contribute to our country’s R&D and innovation capacity and create social benefit by ensuring that the scientific knowledge produced at our university is put into practice with patents, projects, and initiatives. Our mission is to add value to society by pioneering the commercialization of research projects, establishing strong collaborations with industry, and playing a leading role in the entrepreneurship ecosystem.” Emphasizing that there are five main units that support every stage of technology transfer processes at Medipol TTO, Kaya said that they guide academics, students, and entrepreneurs by specializing in areas such as the “Project Support Office”, “University-Industry Cooperation Office”, “Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights Office”, “Entrepreneurship Center”, “Technology Commercialization and Business Development Office”, and “Clinical Research Office”. Kaya said: “With the Project Support Office, we provide access to national and international funding programs and facilitate application processes. The University-Industry Cooperation Office brings together the needs of the industry with the knowledge and technology of our university. In addition to these units, we contribute to the implementation of innovative projects in our laboratories.”

KAYA: WE DEVELOP PROJECTS FOR COMPANIES
Elçin Dilek Kaya stated that activities carried out in the field of entrepreneurship and innovation provide significant contributions to the entrepreneurship ecosystem and added that they support entrepreneurs with opportunities such as the Entrepreneurship Support Program (BiGG) of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK), innovation competitions, mentoring, and networking events. Kaya said: “Especially our laboratories such as MLab, 3D Lab, and AR/VR Lab enable our academics and students to take their creative potential to the highest level. These infrastructures accelerate the transformation of projects into concrete products and the economic value of innovative ideas.” Kaya, underlining that Medipol TTO has developed strong collaborations with the industry, stated that they provide consultancy to companies on project development, management, and intellectual property rights. Kaya said: “We make a difference with our projects in developing innovative products for society and creating employment opportunities. As Medipol TTO, we will continue to play a leading role in the academic and industrial world with our strong infrastructure and support mechanisms.”

ENTREPRENEURS ARE PROVIDED WITH UNLIMITED OPPORTUNITIES
Medipol TTO aims to strengthen the entrepreneurship ecosystem by activating Türkiye’s potential in the field of technology. In addition to free and shared workspaces, it offers entrepreneurs three different laboratory services equipped with advanced technologies such as 3D LAB, E.M. LAB, and AR/VR LAB where they can turn their projects into reality, leading the way for innovative ideas to come to life. GIM Laboratories also offer Arduino sets for developing new codes, virtual reality equipment for producing new projects in the virtual world, drones for video shooting, and workshop equipment with 360-degree cameras. In the laboratories, it is possible to do 3D modeling, 3D printing, scan 3D models, produce models, develop software, and print them on an electronic circuit printer. Continuous training is also organized to develop the culture of entrepreneurship, to increase the number of successful initiatives, and to develop the skills and abilities of the entrepreneur.
