Assoc. Prof. Başak Gezmen, the Head of the Department of New Media and Communication of the School of Communication at Istanbul Medipol University, made statements to Anadolu Agency. Drawing attention to the fact that young people who spend long periods of time on social media face the danger of addiction, Assoc. Prof. Gezmen said: “They spend a lot of time on social media, which increases their risk of encountering harmful content. Naturally, especially the children, do not know exactly how to make decisions because they cannot fully determine what is right and what is wrong in the face of this harmful content. For this reason, restrictions have now become mandatory worldwide. When we consider Türkiye, the situation is not much different. I want to underline that the real responsibility here falls on social media platforms and internet organizations.”
