Prof. Aydın and Prof. İpşirli elected as TÜBA Honorary Members

Istanbul Medipol University Faculty Members Prof. Mehmet Âkif Aydın and Prof. Mehmet İpşirli were selected as “Honorary Members” by the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA).

Prof. Mehmet Âkif Aydın, Faculty Member of the School of Law at Istanbul Medipol University, and Prof. Mehmet İpşirli, Faculty Member of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, were elected as Honorary Members of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) in the field of Social and Human Sciences. TÜBA elected fifteen scientists as TÜBA Honorary Members in line with the decision taken at the ‘Academy Council’ held in December 2024. The two academics, who have undertaken important international studies in the fields of history and social sciences, were deemed worthy of this prestigious title with their scientific knowledge and valuable contributions to their areas.

PROF. AYDIN CONTINUES HIS WORK AT THE LEGAL HISTORY APPLICATION AND RESEARCH CENTER (MÜHTAM)    
Prof. Mehmet Âkif Aydın, who conducted significant research on the law and justice system in the Ottoman Empire, made significant contributions to academia with his works, such as Turkish Legal History, Law and Justice in the Ottoman Empire, and Ottoman Family Law. Prof. Aydın, who served as a member of the Council of Higher Education (CoHE) between 2009–2013, also assumed the position of Dean of Istanbul Medipol University School of Law. Prof. Aydın, who continues his academic work as the Director of the Legal History Application and Research Center (Mühtam), has written forty entries and chapters for the Türkiye Diyanet Foundation (TDV) Islamic Encyclopedia. Prof. Aydın has also conducted in-depth research in the field of Islamic sciences and has trained many researchers. Served as the President of the Center for Islamic Studies (İSAM) of the Türkiye Diyanet Foundation (TDV) for 10 years, Prof. Aydın was honored with the “Islamic Cultural Service of the Century Honor and Service Awards” by the Presidency of Religious Affairs for his contributions to Islamic culture. Prof. Mehmet Âkif Aydın, who has also held important positions such as membership in the Turkish Historical Society (TTK) and the Council of Higher Education (CoHE), continues to make significant contributions to the scientific world of Türkiye with his academic and cultural studies.

PROF. İPŞİRLİ RECEIVES THE PRESIDENTIAL CULTURE AND ARTS GRAND AWARD 
Prof. İpşirli, who has been a Faculty Member at the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Istanbul Medipol University since 2015, has conducted important research on Ottoman science, institutions, and historiography. The academic, who has presented papers at many symposiums and congresses in Türkiye and abroad, has made significant contributions to the world of science with his valuable works, such as Tarih-i Selânikî (1989), Tarih-i Naima (2007), and Tarih-i Cevdet Volume 1 (2018). Prof. İpşirli, who has written nearly two hundred articles in the Türkiye Diyanet Foundation (TDV) Islamic Encyclopedia, stands out as a respected name in his field with his research on Ottoman history and culture. Prof. İpşirli, who was awarded the Presidential Culture and Arts Grand Award in 2018, also holds the title of Honorary Member of the Turkish Historical Society (TTK).
