At the November 24 Teacher’s Day event organized by Istanbul Medipol University School of Education, the history of the teaching profession and the transformative effects of artificial intelligence applications on the field were discussed.

An event was organized by Istanbul Medipol University School of Education to celebrate November 24 Teacher’s Day and to draw attention to the potential changes in the teaching profession due to developing technology. The event, which was held at the South Campus Conference Hall, was attended by the Dean of the School of Education Prof. Servet Bayram, the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences Prof. Gökhan Silahtaroğlu, and the Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Semih Korkut, faculty members, and students. At the program, Dr. Tuğba Durak Demirhan and Dr. Volkan İnceçay gave speeches. A musical recital was also performed by Makamların Ahengi Topluluğu, led by Prof. Volkan Gidiş, the Head of the Department of Turkish Music at the School of Fine Arts, Design, and Architecture.

PROF. BAYRAM: THE IMPLEMENTATION OF CORRECT EDUCATION POLICIES IS A MUST FOR THE PERMANENCE OF VALUES
Delivering the opening speech of the event, Prof. Servet Bayram gave information about the history of the teaching profession. Prof. Bayram stated that the criteria that teachers should follow have been renewed in the scientific community and said: “Competence in the field of education, curriculum, pedagogical field, comprehensive information about students and their characteristics, and the goals and values ​​that need to be achieved in an educational sense are the criteria sought in the teaching profession. Being competent in these categories is one of the steps to being ready for the teaching profession.” Prof. Bayram stated that the education problems encountered in many areas of life, especially in the legal system, stem from the lack of well-being of teachers and concluded his words as follows: “I believe that the implementation of correct and effective education policies is a must for the permanence of universal-human values, the existence of our country, and our future. The steps to be taken in this regard are of interest not only to us as educators, but also to society as a whole.”

DR. DEMİRHAN: AS LONG AS WE PROTECT THE CHILD WITHIN US, WE CAN UNDERSTAND THE TEACHING PROFESSION
Dr. Tuğba Durak Demirhan, a faculty member of the Department of Early Childhood Teaching at Istanbul Medipol University, emphasized the importance of childhood in education and said: “As long as we protect the child within us, we can understand the teaching profession. If we know the childlike language, we can reach the world of children. We are happy and proud to shape the future with the many children we raise.” Dr. Volkan İnceçay, a faculty member of the Department of English Language Teaching at Istanbul Medipol University, also delivered a presentation titled “Possible Effects of Artificial Intelligence on Teacher Training”. Stating that artificial intelligence has not yet been used in a qualified manner, Dr. İnceçay concluded his words as follows: “With artificial intelligence, personalization and automatic feedback will emerge in education. In this sense, our work as teachers will be easier. Artificial intelligence is here and will become increasingly widespread. Therefore, practice-based education should be improved, and artificial intelligence applications should be added to the curriculum.”
