Assoc. Prof. Büyüker: Electronic cigarettes are as dangerous as other tobacco products
In her statement to Anadolu Agency, the School of Pharmacy faculty member Assoc. Prof. Sultan Mehtap Büyüker stated that the types of tobacco addiction have changed over the years and that, in addition to cigarettes, hookah and electronic cigarettes carry serious health risks.

Istanbul Medipol University School of Pharmacy faculty member Assoc. Prof. Sultan Mehtap Büyüker made a statement to Anadolu Agency. Assoc. Prof. Büyüker emphasized that the idea that e-cigarettes are harmless because they do not contain tobacco is wrong and said: “People who smoke usually turn to e-cigarettes during the process of quitting smoking. It is thought that e-cigarettes are harmless because they do not contain tobacco, but this is a very wrong perception. These devices have a heating chamber for the vaporization of nicotine. Various solvents are used to provide vaporization and chemical aromatic substances are added to provide a pleasant smell, taste or a softer smoke, and the user inhales all these chemicals. Moreover, the amount of nicotine taken from an electronic cigarette can be much higher than traditional tobacco products. Its use is increasing especially among young people. The idea that ‘I quit smoking, now I use an electronic cigarette, it is more harmless’ is completely wrong.”
