From abstract concepts to concrete designs: Mathematics teaching materials exhibition was held
The exhibition entitled “Mathematics Made Concrete: An Exhibition of Material Designs” prepared by students of the Primary Mathematics Education Program within the School of Education at Istanbul Medipol University was presented to visitors at the South Campus. The exhibition featured original instructional material designs aimed at making mathematics education more comprehensible, interactive, and enduring.

Organized as part of the Material Design in Mathematics Education course, the exhibition was prepared by third-year students of the Primary Mathematics Education Program within the School of Education at Istanbul Medipol University. Conducted under the academic supervision of Assist. Prof. Damla Sönmez, the exhibition showcased individually developed instructional materials designed in alignment with the Türkiye Century Education Model, encompassing diverse learning domains across all grade levels and thematic areas.
The exhibition presented a total of 55 original instructional materials addressing various fields of mathematics, ranging from probability and geometry to statistical investigation processes and concepts of number and quantity. Through notable materials such as “Veriden Olasılığa”, “Üçgenin Gizli Işınları”, “Veri İstasyonu”, and “Rasyonel Yolculuk” the exhibition aimed to enable students to learn mathematical concepts through concrete experiences.

The materials developed by the students incorporated applications that made the abstract nature of mathematics more understandable by relating it to everyday life. Based on an interactive learning approach, the designs were developed to support problem-solving, reasoning, analytical thinking, and mathematical thinking skills. A portion of the materials exhibited will be donated to primary and middle schools for student use.
