Universities are one of the most important actors in this process with their ability to raise awareness in society, provide education, pave the way for the adoption and dissemination of new ideas, encourage research and serve as role models for society. Universities have been recognised by the UN as a guiding force in the implementation of the SDGs, playing a key role through their ability to disseminate and adopt new ideas, as well as through their educational and research opportunities. Universities should lead the green transformation and thus the SDGs by contributing to quality education, decent work and economic growth, climate action, reducing inequalities, responsible production and consumption, waste management, sustainable agricultural technologies, water management and environmentally friendly transport facilities, especially on campuses.
