AimPhysiology is the study of how the body works: the ways in which cells, organs and the whole body functions, and how these functions are maintained in a changing environment The aim of this subject are to induce the students who acquire the basic theories and knowledge of the course and gain relative basic skill training. By studying, the students should achieve such level: --to distinguish the microscopic anatomy of the healthy human body; --correlate microscopic morphology and function at the organ levels; --and relate cell biology, histology and embryonic development to disease processes. To teach fundamentals of pathology and introduction to clinical pathologyThe aim of this subject are to induce the students who acquire the basic theories and knowledge of the course and gain relative basic skill training. By studying, the students should achieve such level: --to distinguish the microscopic anatomy of the healthy human body; --correlate microscopic morphology and function at the organ levels; --and relate cell biology, histology and embryonic development to disease processes.
Course ContentThis course contains; Unit 1: Introduction to Physiology Unit 2: Cell Structure and Function Unit 3: Membrane Physiology Unit 4: Muscular System Unit 5: Cardiovascular System Unit 6: Respiratory System Unit 7: Digestive System Unit 8: Metabolism Unit 9: Urinary System Unit 10: Body-Fluid Compartments and Movement of Materials Unit 11: Nervous System Unit 12: Sensory System Unit 13: The Endocrine System Unit 14: Reproductive System.

On completion of this learning event, the students should be able to:

V. Explain cardiovascular regulation and patterns of cardiovascular response.

I. Evaluate the basic concepts involved in the regulation of fluids and electrolytes. II. Relate the maintenance of normal fluid volume, composition and compartmental distribution of the body fluids to alterations in homeostatic conditions.

1. Explain introductory concepts of human physiology and discuss homeostatic principles. I. Discuss the cellular organisation of the body by referring to the functions and interactions of the different cell components. II. Explain the events involved in the generation and propagation of an action potential
2. Explain basic physiological concepts of the nervous system. I. Discuss functional aspects of the different sections of the brain with special reference to the functional brain systems. II. Give an overview of receptor functions and the general senses of the body
3. Explain the functional aspects specific organs of the endocrine system
4. Explain the basic concepts of the blood circulation. I. Describe the formation, morphology, characteristics and specialised functions of blood cells. II. Explain and demonstrate with the aid of annotated diagrams the electrical events in the heart during one heart beat. III. Analyse the events of one cardiac cycle relate the heart sounds to the specific events in this cycle. IV. Discuss cardio dynamics by referring to the cardiac output, heart rate and stroke volume and explain the coordination of adjustments of these variables at different levels of activity.
5. Discuss the relation between structure and function and explain the series of integrated processes in respiratory physiology as well as during the control of respiration.
6. Explain the digestion and absorption of food in the gastrointestinal system in detail.
