Assistant(s)Periodontology is a branch of dentistry that examines the clinical and microscopic structure of the hard and soft tissues surrounding the teeth, diagnoses diseases affecting these tissues, applies their treatments, and maintains the health gained afterwards
AimAfter explaining the anatomy and histology of the normal periodontium, the disease, its pathogenesis, etiology, immunology and classification are explained and information about treatments is given. In this period, after periodontal disease is introduced, ways to prevent the disease and non-surgical periodontal treatment are explained so that the student can distinguish between health and disease and have an idea about initial periodontal treatments.
Course ContentThis course contains; Periodontium,Indices used in periodontology and OHI,Classification and epidemiology of periodontal diseases.,Etiology of periodontal disease.,Pathogenesis of periodontal disease.,Clinical structures and diagnosis of gingivitis.,Acute gingival infections and desquamative diseases, Gingival enlargements and gingival discolorations,Treatment of periodontal disease,Periodontal treatment and systemic diseases,Non-surgical periodontal treatment (phase-1),Periodontal instruments,Scaling and root planning,Chemotherapeutic agents and host respond,Treatment of aggressive and atypic periodontitis,Occlusal evaluation, occlusal forces and trauma,Periodontal tooth sensivity,Oral malodor and halitosis, Female and periodontal health,Nutrition and Periodontium.
