1 | Definition / History of Data Journalism | Learn the basics of what data journalism is and how it emerged. Do research on key figures in data journalism and their pioneering work. Analyze case studies to understand how data journalism differs from traditional journalism. |
2 | Finding a Story with Data - How To | Learn the basic concepts of how to extract stories from data sets. Learn about data analysis and interpretation techniques. Review and analyze examples of successful data stories. |
3 | Data Scraping | Learn about data scraping and what tools are used. Learn the basics of HTML and CSS, as these languages are important for understanding the structure of web pages. Practice by working on simple data scraping examples. |
4 | Introduction to Data Visualization Tools | Learn the basics and importance of data visualization. Learn about basic data visualization tools and software (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, Google Charts). Practice visualization with simple data sets. |
5 | Basic Statistics and Working Practices in Excel | Learn basic statistical concepts (mean, median, mode, standard deviation, etc.) |
6 | Right to Information Request, Digital Content Verification | Learn about the right to information and its legal framework. Conduct research on the processes for requesting information and data from public institutions. Learn about digital content verification techniques and tools (e.g. reverse image search, metadata analysis). |
7 | Open Data Give Ethics | Learn about open data and the sources from which it can be obtained. Research ethical principles and privacy issues in data use. Conduct case studies on ethical dilemmas and cases related to the use of open data. |
