Erasmus + Exchange Programme English Proficiency Exam is the exam in which the English proficiency of the students studying at Istanbul Medipol University, who want to study abroad for a certain period within the scope of the European Union Erasmus Student Exchange Project Student Learning and Internship Mobility, is determined. Listening, reading, grammar, vocabulary, writing and speaking skills are evaluated in the exam and it consists of 3 (three) sections: 

 

1. Multiple Choice Section (40 points): It measures students' reading and listening skills, grammar, and vocabulary knowledge at B2 (CEFR) level. 

2. Writing Section (20 points): Measures students' ability to compose a text within an academic framework. 

3. Speaking Section (40 points): Measures students' competence in speaking on a given topic and answering questions related to the topic. 

 

The 2023-24 Erasmus+ Exchange Programme English Proficiency Exam will be held on Saturday 23 March by Istanbul Medipol University /General Coordination of Foreign Languages. The exam will be held in two sessions, the first session (multiple-choice section and writing section) face-to-face and the second session (speaking section) online via Microsoft Teams.  

 

The list of students who are eligible to take the exam can be found below ranked according to the student number.  The students on this list will be added to the related channels on Microsoft Teams, for the speaking part, by the end of Friday 22.03.2024. Students are required to check their Teams accounts and notify the Erasmus Office and the Language School if there are any problems by 17.00 on Friday 23.03.2024.

Points to consider in the exam:  

  • All candidates are kindly requested to be present in the exam hall at least 15 minutes before the exam time in the first session. 

  • There is a 45-minute (75 min. for High Level) Writing section in the exam, which will be held after the Main Part. Between Main Part and Writing, 5 minutes are allocated for collecting exam papers and distributing writing papers. This period is not a break for our students. It will not be possible to leave the classroom, and phones will not be distributed to students. 

  • Students are expected to bring their own pencils and erasers to the exam. Exchanging erasers and pencils is forbidden during the exam.  

  • OPTICAL ANSWER KEYS MUST BE FILLED IN WITH PENCIL ONLY. OTHERWISE THE ANSWER SHEET WILL NOT BE EVALUATED. 

  • Smartphones and smartwatches are to be switched to airplane mode and turned off, and handed over to the proctor before the exam starts. If students fail to turn in their smartphones or smart watches, their exams will be invalid.  

  • Only the answers on the scantron will be evaluated. Students cannot get points from questions they only answered on the exam papers if they did not code onto the scantron/optical form.  

  • It is the students’ responsibility to fill out the optical form/scantron correctly. If you fail to fill out the version and the scantron correctly, you will get 0 from the exam.  

  • Students who arrive after the listening section has started will not be accepted into the exam until the listening audio finishes.  

  • Students cannot leave the exam in the first 40 minutes. Students cannot wait in the corridors after they leave their exam.  

  • Students will not be allowed to use the restroom during the exam.  

Regarding session two, students must use their Medipol student e-mail addresses and passwords to access Microsoft Teams.  Those who have problems with their student e-mail account need to send an e-mail to [email protected] and resolve the problem before the exam. Students will be added to respective Teams and private channels named with exam start time and their names (e.g., 13:00- John Doe). Students are required to be online in their teams on time, keep their cameras on, and show a valid ID in the exam.  

 

Exam Content / Venue / Hours: 

Session I (Face to Face / IMU North Campus Block A & Block C) 

1.  Multiple Choice Section: 40 points / 09.00-10.15 (75 min.) 

- Listening part- 12 points 

- Reading part (2 Reading texts)- 12 points 

- Grammar part- 8 points 

- Vocabulary part- 8 points 

2.  Writing Section (250-400 words)- 20 points / 10.20-11.35 (75 min.) 

Session II (Online / Microsoft Teams) 

3. Speaking Section (Warmup/Monologue/Dialogue)- 40 points / Please, see the list of speaking exam time slots below (10 min. for each student)
