Magnetic fluids from engineering to biomedical science

Magnetic fluids are fluids with suspended nano-sized magnetic particles. They can be suspended in hydrophilic or hydrophobic environments depending on the surface modification. Their magnetic core allows these particles to be manipulated in their continuous medium, hence lend them in several applications ranging from bioseparations to drug delivery. Their size and morphology govern their magnetic and colloidal properties, making them tailor-able for a desired application. Some synthetic methods for their preparation and several applications from nanocomposites to drug delivery will be summarized. This week in Brain Blooming Session, Seyda Bucak Malta (Ass. Prof.) from Yeditepe University Chemical Engenering Faculty will be our guest. She will give out a presentation on Synthesis and applications of magnetic fluids: from engineering to biomedical.
